Some scribbles written to whomever who wants to read with an open mind and hopefully gains some knowledge from it. Everything written is subjective as i believe that "to each - its own belief and faith to seek". Everyone seeks God or try to understand the real meaning of their Religion at one point of their life. It does not matter what point it is or how you seek it as long you find the right path and you feel it in you that it is your right path - That is what really Matters!. God Bless.

THE BIRTH OF MAHABHARATHA

The Birth Of The Greatest Epic
        =====================================

The Battle That Ended The Epic.
Many of us would have read the epic Mahabharatha once or more then once and yet may know it by name but have not read it. But it is safe to assume that all Indians would acknowledge that they have heard of this book.

How many of us can say that we know how this book was created. Who created his epic story and what and how did it come about being written. Now append below is a short story on the birth or creation of this greatest epic.

                                                         THE STORY

Once a Sage known as Parashar who was on pilgrimage visiting all the holy spots of water (Theerthas). During one of his travel, he reached the holy banks of Yamuna River. He wanted to
cross the river so he searched for a boatman to take him across the river. He found the boatman
and asked him to take him across the river but since the boatman was having his lunch, he asked
his daughter Matsyagandha to take the sage across the river.

As he began to row the boat, the sage cant take his eyes of this beautiful Matsyagandha. She has
enchanted him with her beauty. The sage developed a crush on her and began to convey his
desire and feelings for her.

As he was holding her hands and conveying his desires , she thought to herself that “ if I do not
surrender to his desires, he may curse me but I cant let him do what he wants as I am still a
virgin”. She thought of a way to try to make him not to want her and said “ O great sage, I am a
daughter of a fisherman and I smell like a fish, surely you don’t want to enjoy such a smelly
girl”. Hearing this the sage took some water from his pot and sprinkled some sanctified water
unto her and that made her whole body smell of sweet perfume. He then said” now you are no
longer Matsyagandha as you no longer smell of fish, now your are known as Sathyavati”.

Now the girl had to think fast of another excuse, so when the sage came closer to her, she
quickly told him “it is still day time, everyone or someone might be watching”. The sage sat
back and chanted a mantra and using his yogic power he made a thick fog appear surrounding
the boat.

Seeing this the girl at last said to him “ Sage , since I am a virgin and suppose your physical
contact with me makes me pregnant, wont my life be doomed”. To this the sage answered “ No
I promise to you that even after our physical contact you shall have your maidenhood intact.
Furthermore since your are willing to fulfill my desires I give you whatever boon that you may
want.”

She said to him” then please ensure that nobody would ever know or find out of our physical contact – not even my parents and I would remain as a virgin and always have this fragrance smelling body forever and with our union today that I will be blessed with a male child who will be as brilliant and wise as you”.

The sage happily agreed to it and he had his psychical contact with her and he blessed her and
gave her the boon and he went on with his pilgrimage.

As time passed, Satyavati (Matsyagandha) became pregnant and eventually gave birth to a son.
He was dark coloured skinned and as such he was given the name of Krishna. As the place he
was given birth to was a small island (Dweep) in the midst of the Yamuna River, he given name was Krishna Dweipayan. He grew up to be a brilliant and wise boy.

When he came to his age, one day he told his mother “ in order to fulfill my destiny and to accomplish my mission for which I have taken birth, I must travel and do some vigorous penance. I know I will be apart from you but whenever you call me in your distress time, I shall be near you to provide you with solace. This is my solemn promise to you!”

Having said that, he packed and left to do his penance. Everyday he grew wiser and accumulating more knowledge by the day through reading. He then undertook the work of editing all the religious scriptures available in the times of the Dwapara Age (Yugam). By this time he has mastered all the Vedas and was given the title “Vedvyasa”.

KRISHNA DWEIPAYAN @ VEDVYASA
While he was editing and writing the holy scriptures, he longed to write and create an epic poem
story with regards to his knowledge of mankind. He wants to write a poem/story about human,
devotion, bravery, knowledge, spiritual, love, hate , backstabbing, being faithful, being a good
son, student and teacher all other things that he has learned from his past experiences.

He approached Supreme Creator Brahma for advice on how to go about doing what he longed to do in a right way. Brahma told him “ yes it is a very noble idea but there is no mortal being on
earth who is capable to write it for you. You must pray to Lord Ganesha as he is the only one
who is capable of doing so”.

DICTATION GIVEN BY VEDVYASA AND TAKEN BY LORD GANESHA
Vedvyasa then began on a tough penance worshiping Lord Ganesha. Pleased with his penance
Lord Ganesha appeared before him and told him that “ I will be happy to take your dictation but
on one condition, my pen should not stop even for one second until you finish your poem”.

Vedvyasa agreed to this condition and began dictating as Lord Ganesha began writing the epic.
It contain 18 paragraphs of 100,217 Slokas and the epic was given the name “JAI”. In time the
name changed to “Bharat Purana” and eventually was named as “Mahabharata” (Great Epic).

THE END OF THIS EPIC MADE WAY FOR THE BEGINNING OF ANOTHER EPIC NAMED BHAGAVAT GEETHA
